Introduction
The Istanbul Museum of The History of Science and Technology in Islam (In Turkish: istanbul islam Bilim ve Teknoloji Tarihi Müzesi)opened in late May 2008. This is in Gülhane Park, in the former stables of Topkapi Palace.
The Museum has technological and scientific works by Islamic scholars and is run by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK), the Turkish Academy of Sciences (TÜBA), the İstanbul Metropolitan Municipality and Frankfurt Goethe University (Germany)
The was opened in May 2008 by the Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
When I visited on 26 May 2008, a few days after the museum had been opened, they were still getting set up. I met Dr. Detlev Quintern from Bremen University. There were well presented exhibits with well illustrated explanations and outstanding animations showing how the devices displayed functioned. However, the signs for showing the door where not yet installed, making the museum difficult to find. Other buildings along outer wall of the gardens are still under renovation.
