- emerging information and communications technologies, including interactive
television, call centres, and interactive voice response systems;
- the global information technology and telecommunications industry and market,
particularly with reference to Australia.
- Personalisation facilities
- existing and emerging trends in Internet customisation features and applications.
- On-line payments, and particularly:
- existing and emerging technologies for financial transactions, including electronic funds transfer, telephone banking, account transfers, electronic currencies, money orders and on-line payments, particularly Internet-based;
- the Australian banking industry and trends.
- Information technology development
- IT systems design for Internet-based service facilities and on software and hardware compatibility, interoperability and data exchange;
- IT&T standards particularly those relevant to electronic commerce, electronic
messaging, the Internet and world wide web applications.
- the development of standards and protocols, eg through research and analysis of
different data standards and validation edits used across government agencies
through advice on standards and protocol development methods and processes and
on 'best practice' information management techniques and models.
- Advanced search facilities.

- assist with business planning and evaluation of aspects of the initiative from a strategic, economic, technical and/or commercial perspective;
- assist with risk assessment through the systematic identification, exploration and quantification of various kinds of risks.

- advanced electronic search technologies for internet applications and their potential integration with profiling and customisation options.
- perform new product research and develop advice on product suitability for the department’s purposes.
- Electronic Commerce
- the integration of proposed projects with existing and proposed electronic commerce and Internet technologies.
- Authentication and Security
- issues relating to provision of secure IT facilities with connections to the Internet in line with government guidelines
