Writing for the Web

This first exercise is intended to get you used to creating web based documents online. Use the "About the HTML Editor" for tips on using the editor.

The Lake Macquarie City Council web site offer a "Resources and Services for Schools" publication on their web site. Open the document in another web browser window and answer these questions:
  1. What format is the document in: HTML or PDF?
  2. Is the document designed to be read on screen or printed out? What problems can you see with how it is formatted? Hint: does the information appear in the correct order on screen?
  3. Who is the document intended for? Where would they use it? Could it be used to make a slide for classroom use?
  4. If you were not from Lake Macquarie and were reading this document on the web, what extra information would you want?
  5. Here is a short section of text from the document with the formatting removed. Note how hard it is to read without formatting to show the structure. Copy this text into your answer and use the web editing tools to mark it up. Make "Environmental Fact Sheets" a "Heading 2", insert a web link to the "list of fact sheets" on the text "a series of fact sheets" and make the lines after "Macquarie including" a bulleted list:
Environmental Fact Sheets
A series of fact sheets covering the most frequently asked
