Internet Reality Check
5:30pm Drinks, 6pm talk, on Friday 2 May 1997
Bar & Corporate Lounge, National Press Club, National Circuit, Barton, Canberra
Topic: "Who Webs Wins? - Military Internet and the Future of Canberra"
Special Guest: Tom Worthington, Defence Web Master (Emeritus) & President of the Australian Computer Society
Tom Worthington will stand down as Defence's first Web Master on Thursday
1 May. An early advocate of the use of the Internet by
Government and creator of the Defence Home Page in 1995, Tom will talk
about a recent inspection of internet systems on the US 7th Fleet's flag ship
during Exercise Tandem Thrust 97. He will also speculate on a future for
Canberra as a centre for the information industry.Internet Reality Check (not to be confused with Internet Relay Chat) is designed so that members of the 'net community can meet and exchange the small amount of very important information which is not suitable for digital transmission. ;-)
IRCs are free (but you have to buy your own drinks) and open to anyone interested: just turn up, no need to book.
