  1. Form navigation


    1. Form overview


      As with the paper version of the Census, there are two eCensus forms;
      • The Household form asks questions of every person in your household, including visitors, who are present on Census night and questions about the dwelling.
      • The Personal form is for one person in accommodation such as hotels, hostels, hospitals, staff or student quarters.

      For the vision impaired, the Household and Personal forms have been designed to be read with screen readers. The eCensus has been designed to be viewed at a minimum screen resolution of 800x600; however it can be viewed on higher resolutions. Below is the Persons Present page of the Household form. Click on the numbers for more information on each section or click on the links in the Index.

       
    2. Keyboard navigation


      • Press the Tab key to move forward through the form and Shift+Tab to move backwards.
      • Press the Enter key to open the Help links at the top of the page and the information links at the bottom of the page. The Enter key will also active Back to top
      • Press either the Enter key or Spacebar to activate the left hand side navigation buttons ; and the Information buttons in the question boxes or Help for Question 2b.
      • For questions requiring a radio button response , the Tab key will take you to the first option then use the Up and Down Arrow keys to move between each response option. The radio button will activate automatically as you arrow up or down. Once your response is activated, press the Tab key to move to the next question.
      • For questions requiring a check box response , the Tab key will move you through each response option. Press the Spacebar to activate your response.

  3. Information and navigation buttons


    1. Question specific information buttons


      In the right hand corner of the question box is an "i" button or a link, for example Help for Question 2b, containing information on why the question is asked and how to answer the question.

    2. Left hand side navigation buttons


      Pressing of the buttons on the left hand side of the page will take you to the beginning of the corresponding section of the form.

      Example 1 - Shows the left hand side navigation buttons of the Household form without any person details entered.





      Example 2 - Shows the left hand navigation buttons with the Persons Present page and person form for Joe Citizen completed. As you complete each section of the form a Section Complete will appear next to the corresponding button.

    3. Bottom navigation buttons




      • The Back button will move you back to the previous page or section.
      • The Next button will move you to the next section or page.
      • The Exit button is used to exit the form. On exiting you will be prompted to save your eCensus form.
      • The Delete Person(s) button will display the Delete Persons page
  4. Check boxes, radio buttons and text fields


    1. Check boxes


      Check boxes are used when the answer to a question can have multiple responses. To amend a response, click on the checked box to deactivate the tick and choose another check box option.

      Example - What is Joe Citizen's ancestry?

      English
      Irish
      Italian
      German
      Chinese
      Scottish
      Australian


    2. Radio buttons


      Radio buttons are used when the answer to a question can only have one response. To amend a response, click on another radio button option.

      Example - In which country was Joe Citizen's born?

      Australia
      England
      New Zealand
      Italy
      Viet Nam
      Scotland
      Greece


    3. Text Fields


      Text fields are used when the answer to a question requires a text and/or numeric response.

      Example - What is the address of this dwelling?

      Apartment/Flat/Unit number (if any)

      Street number

      Street name

  5. Question Sequencing


    The eCensus has been designed to skip questions that are not relevant based on your response to previous questions. If you believe that a question has been sequenced incorrectly, please check your response to the question specified in the question box.
